What is the Purpose of Fasting During the Month of Ramadhan?
Allah the Exalted in Might says in the glorious Qur'an in chapter 2 (Surah Bakara) verse number 183 that the fasting has been even prescribed for the people before us,
“O ye who believe! fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you”.
Allah Azza Wajal prescribed fasting for a unique reason which has been mentioned by himself in the last and final revelation to the whole of mankind, the Glorious Qur’an as:
“That you may become Al-Muttaqûn (the pious, God-fearing)” [Qur’an 2:183]
What is so special about the month of Ramadhan?
Allah Azza Wajal says in the Qur’an in chapter 2 (Surah Bakara) verse number 185:
“The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for mankind, and clear proofs of the guidance, and the Criterion (of right and wrong). And whosoever of you is present, let him fast the month”
